The John and Kathryn Solon Scholarship was created in memory of John R. Solon of Streator, IL who passed away in 2004. Mr. Solon was a local farmer and school board member, who graduated from Streator Township High School in 1937. He and his wife, Kathryn, better known as Kitty, a 1941 graduate of Streator Township High School raised 10 children. All of their children graduated from Streator Township High School as well. The family lived on a farm 5 miles west of Streator. John and Kitty, both strong believers in education encouraged their children to pursue post-secondary education.

The Lynne F. Solon Foundation, whose mission is to help improve the lives of individuals affected by diabetes and its related complications; and also individuals living with other disabilities, has established the scholarship fund.
